At present, with the growing maturity of laser cutting technology, optical fiber laser cutting machine has been widely used. Basically, metal plates can be easily cut, but different metal plates have different characteristics, so we need to pay more attention when cutting. What aspects should we pay attention to when cutting metal plates? Let’s look at them together.
1. Stainless steel
Nitrogen is required for cutting stainless steel to obtain the edge without oxidation and burr. Coating oil film on the surface of stainless steel plate will achieve better perforation effect without reducing the processing quality;
2. Carbon steel
Better results will be obtained when carbon steel is cut with oxygen. When oxygen is used, the cutting edge will be slightly oxidized. For plates with a thickness of 4mm, the optical fiber laser cutting machine can use nitrogen as the processing gas for high-pressure cutting, and the cutting edge will not be oxidized. For plates with a thickness of more than 10 mm, a good effect can be obtained by using a special electrode plate and coating the workpiece surface with oil during processing;
3. Aluminum
Although it has high reflectivity and thermal conductivity, aluminum materials with a thickness of less than 6mm can be cut, depending on the alloy type and laser capacity. When cutting with oxygen, the cutting surface is rough and hard. When cutting with nitrogen, the cutting surface is smooth. Pure aluminum is very difficult to cut because of its high purity. Only when a “reflection absorption” device is installed on the optical fiber laser cutting machine system can it be cut, otherwise the reflection will damage the optical components;
4. Copper and brass
Both materials have high reflectivity and excellent thermal conductivity. Brass with thickness less than 1mm can be cut with nitrogen; Copper with thickness less than 2mm must use oxygen. Only when a “reflection absorption” device is installed on the system can copper and brass be cut, otherwise the reflection will damage the optical components.
